The South Sudan Revenue Authority (SSRA) is participating in the 2026 Annual Meetings of the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) in Cairo, Egypt, to discuss strategies for strengthening domestic revenue mobilisation and improving tax systems across Africa. The five-day meetings, running from November 1 to 5, bring together African tax administrators and development partners under the theme, “The Revenue Imperative: Africa’s Path to Financing Its Own Development.”The SSRA delegation is led by Deputy Commissioner General Solomon Ariik Manyok, who is representing the Commissioner General.Speaking to the press after the opening ceremony, Ariik said the Commissioner General had urged the delegation to actively participate in the discussions, exchange knowledge and experiences, and explore opportunities for collaboration to support South Sudan’s tax reform agenda. As part of the programme, Ariik attended the ATAF Council Meeting and participated in a panel discussion on revenue mobilisation in fragile and conflict-affected states. The discussions focused on developing simplified tax systems for countries with limited administrative capacity, strengthening revenue collection and ensuring that international support is better tailored to the challenges facing conflict-affected countries.Participants also examined lessons from countries that have rebuilt their revenue systems following crises, as well as ATAF’s engagement with member states operating in complex environments.Through its participation, the SSRA aims to learn from other African tax administrations, identify practical approaches to improving revenue collection and strengthen South Sudan’s domestic revenue system to support national development priorities.Photo Credit: SSRA
