The Ministry of Health, the National Public Health Institute (NPHI) and partners have convened a workshop to review operational tools for the One Health Multisectoral Coordination Mechanism (OH-MCM), aiming to strengthen coordination and improve preparedness and response to public health threats. The workshop, held on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2026, was conducted under the theme “Stronger Coordination, Preparedness and Response.”It brought together key One Health stakeholders to review and strengthen operational tools designed to improve collaboration, promote timely information sharing and support coordinated action across the human, animal and environmental health sectors. The discussions focused on strengthening the operational capacity of the multisectoral coordination mechanism to ensure that relevant institutions work together more effectively in preventing, detecting and responding to public health emergencies, including Bundibugyo virus disease (BVD).The One Health approach recognises the close links between human, animal and environmental health and promotes collaboration among sectors to address health threats that may affect people, animals and ecosystems. The Ministry of Health, NPHI and their partners said the review was part of broader efforts to build a stronger and more coordinated One Health system capable of responding to emerging and existing health risks.Improved coordination, information sharing and joint action among the sectors are considered essential to strengthening disease surveillance, preparedness and emergency response in South Sudan. The workshop reaffirmed the importance of multisectoral collaboration in protecting public health and building resilience against disease outbreaks and other health threats.Photo: Courtesy
