The South Sudan government has urged organizations operating in the country to strengthen transparency and accountability in the management of funds, emphasizing the need to ensure resources reach their intended beneficiaries.Speaking on Monday during a five-day training on combating the financing of terrorism and money laundering in Juba, Caretaker Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management Peter Mayen Majongdit said funds allocated to organizations should be used for their intended purposes, particularly humanitarian assistance and development programs.Majongdit stressed that responsible financial management was essential to ensuring resources effectively address the needs of vulnerable populations and improve living conditions in communities across the country. He called on organizations to ensure that financial resources are properly managed and directed toward their designated activities. The training, organized by the Centre for Civic Advocacy, focuses on combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism, issues that require cooperation among government institutions, civil society organizations and financial institutions.Meanwhile, Leam Munokoh, programme director of the Centre for Civic Advocacy, urged organizations and banking institutions to advocate for fair treatment while supporting government efforts to promote transparency and accountability.Munokoh emphasized the importance of cooperation among relevant institutions in strengthening financial oversight and ensuring that measures to prevent money laundering and terrorist financing are implemented fairly.Combating money laundering and terrorist financing involves identifying suspicious transactions, preventing the movement of illicit funds and strengthening systems for monitoring financial activities. In South Sudan, stronger financial oversight could help protect resources intended for humanitarian assistance and development, improve public confidence and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.Effective implementation of these measures will depend on cooperation among government agencies, banks, civil society organizations and other stakeholders, as well as clear procedures for financial reporting, monitoring and accountability.
