A man shot dead in dispute over cow

Police in Aweil town of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State are holding a suspect accused of killing a man over a cow.

Guot Guot Akol, police spokesperson in Aweil town told Juba Echo on Tuesday that the suspect Deng Akol shot dead on Monday Garang Geng at Majak-Goi village in Aweil South County over a cow whose ownership they were disputing over.

 “We got information late on Monday and we dispatched a team of police to go and confirm the incident. The killer was transferred to Aweil town police on Monday and will be arraigned in court,” Akol said.

Akol said murder cases have of recent risen in the state with many people flouting legal procedure to solve disputes.

 “Such incidents have been happening and we do advise people not to take the law into their hands. This is not being law-abiding,” he said.

Akol noted that suspect killer is said to have opened a case against the deceased, but resorted to taking the law in his hands.

“Cases of people who use the guns to solve problems have been increasingly happening across the country, as some believe power of the gun solves everything,” he said.
