S. Sudan launches three- years employment strategy

South Sudan’s Ministry of Labor on Friday launched the 2022-2025 strategy for employers in a bid to improve skilling, working conditions and remuneration of employees.

James Hoth Mai, Minster of Labor, called on the Employers Association of South Sudan to implement the strategic plan to help improve cordial relations between employers and employees in the country.

“The Ministry of Labor will support their commitment wherever necessary because there is hope the confederation of IGAD Employers and Employers Association of South Sudan as well entire business community will enjoy peace economically as result of the 2018 Revitalized Peace Agreement, as well the current formation of the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity,” Mai said during consultative workshop in Juba.

Bol Andrew Wieu, the newly elected President of the Confederation of IGAD Employers, said that the confederation of IGAD) Employers is currently made up of 286 million people, adding that this number is projected to increase to 523 millions in 2050. 

The Confederation of IGAD Employers and the Horn of Africa Confederation of Trade Unions (HACTU) signed MoU on July 9, 2021 to build cooperation between the workers in the region as well as employers. 

South Sudan will head the Confederation of IGAD Employers Association for one-year period.
