Heavy flooding cuts off road linking South Sudan to Sudan

The road linking South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal State to neighboring Sudan is currently inaccessible due to heavy flooding.

This was revealed Thursday by Tong Akeen Ngor, the Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Governor who visited and assessed the flood affected Aweil East County where the road is found.

The flooding has also cut off access between Majok Yith-thiou and Warawar areas.

Governor Ngor directed the State Ministry of Roads and Bridges to carry out quick assessment in order to speed up road repairs to ease movement of people and commodities between Aweil town and Merem area of Sudan.

In addition, Ngor called on the National Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management to intervene and save the population at risk of hunger in the state due to heavy floods that destroyed crops and shelters.

The flood affected areas in the state include, Hong Akol, Awic Chier, Marol Deng wiik, Akuacdit, Lol Mading, Tit Ajuot, Mabior Angony, Cuom, Warawar thii, Lol pantong, Yar acot, War riel, Rum marial, Abuor Baac, War Lang, Baac Liet, Manyiel, Wach abaak, War Mathiang, and Maper, and Hong.

South Sudan and Sudan last year signed agreement to open several border crossing points to facilitate free movement of people and goods.
