Central Equatoria urges calm, protection of state assets during political transition

The Central Equatoria State government has called on political leaders, civil servants, security institutions and residents to remain calm and protect public institutions and state assets as South Sudan enters a critical phase of its political transition.

In a statement issued Tuesday, Central Equatoria Information and Communication Minister Nyarsuk Patrick James said the ongoing political developments are part of the transitional process outlined in the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan.

The government urged citizens to remain peaceful and united and warned against violence, misinformation, hate speech and actions that could disrupt public services.

It also called on constitutional officeholders and political leaders to respect the Constitution, the peace agreement and other applicable laws during the transition.

The state government specifically urged officials to safeguard government property, public records, equipment, natural resources and other state assets at all levels of government.

“No public asset should be removed, transferred, sold or misused for personal or political purposes,” the statement said, adding that any change in administration should be conducted peacefully and through proper handover procedures.

The government also encouraged residents to rely on official communications and report threats to public property, violence and other illegal activities to the relevant authorities.

South Sudan is approaching a key transition period linked to government formation and preparations for general elections scheduled for December 2026.

The Central Equatoria government reaffirmed its support for a peaceful and orderly political transition and called on political leaders and constitutional officeholders to work together to preserve peace, stability and public resources.

The statement also commended President Salva Kiir Mayardit for his leadership and recognized Central Equatoria Gov. Emmanuel Adil Anthony and national and state institutions involved in maintaining peace and stability.

The government said protecting public resources and maintaining stability during the transition would help safeguard the interests of current and future generations.
