Civil Society Alliance Calls for More Funding, Political Consensus Ahead of South Sudan Elections
The South Sudan Civil Society Alliances (SSCSA) met with the Chairperson of the National Elections Commission (NEC) to discuss preparations and updates for the country’s upcoming elections.
The meeting, held at the NEC premises, focused on civic awareness, voter registration, demographic consistency, the legal framework, logistical challenges and election timelines.
The discussions also highlighted the need for adequate funding and a conducive political environment to support the timely, free, fair and peaceful conduct of the elections.
SSCSA Chairperson Akouch Ajang Nyanhom called on the government to prioritize funding for the NEC and address outstanding logistical challenges ahead of the polls.
Ajang also stressed the importance of strengthening political consensus among stakeholders to help create conditions for credible and peaceful elections.
The meeting comes as election authorities and stakeholders continue preparations for the upcoming electoral process, with civil society groups calling for greater public awareness and stronger institutional support.
