Central Equatoria State Gov. Emmanuel Adil Anthony has congratulated South Sudan’s national men’s basketball team, the Bright Stars, following their strong performance in the FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers in Tunisia.
The Bright Stars defeated Tunisia 79-75 in their final Group E game in Radès on Aug. 30, completing an unbeaten run during the qualifying window.
In a statement, Adil commended the players and technical team for their dedication, discipline and patriotism, saying their performance helped raise the South Sudanese flag on the international stage.
The Governor also praised President Salva Kiir Mayardit for his vision and support for the development of young talent in the country.
Adil pledged to allocate land in Central Equatoria State for the construction of basketball courts and related sports facilities.
He said the initiative is intended to support the development of basketball and provide opportunities for young athletes in Central Equatoria and across South Sudan.
The Bright Stars’ recent qualifying campaign included an 82-79 victory over Nigeria and an 81-71 win over Guinea before their victory over Tunisia.
