Civil Society Alliance Welcomes U.S. Call for Peaceful, Credible South Sudan Elections

The South Sudan Civil Society Alliances (SSCSA) has welcomed a statement by the United States calling for peaceful, credible and inclusive elections in South Sudan.

In a statement signed by Secretary-General Dabek Mabior Arok, the civil society alliance said it recognizes elections as a sovereign national process and welcomed international support aimed at promoting a peaceful and credible electoral process.

SSCSA called on the government and other stakeholders to provide the necessary financing and logistical support for the elections, strengthen electoral institutions and create an environment conducive to peaceful political participation.

The alliance also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting an electoral process that is peaceful, transparent, inclusive and credible.

According to SSCSA, such an election would contribute to peace, stability, democracy and national unity in South Sudan.
