Energy Minister Discusses Oversight, Coordination With Parliamentary Committee

South Sudan’s Minister of Energy and Dams, Agok Makur Kur, has held talks with the Energy and Dams Committee of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly on strengthening institutional cooperation and oversight of the country’s energy sector.

The meeting, held in Juba on Tuesday, brought together the minister and a delegation from the parliamentary committee led by its chairperson, John Gatnyian Tot, and his deputy, Wol Deng Aleyu.

The discussions focused on coordination between the ministry and the legislative committee, monitoring the implementation of ministry policies and addressing challenges affecting the energy and dams sector.

Makur said the energy sector, particularly electricity, is critical to South Sudan’s development, stability and efforts to improve citizens’ living conditions. He emphasized the importance of cooperation between government institutions and the legislature in advancing national development priorities.

The minister also expressed the ministry’s readiness to cooperate with the parliamentary committee and respond to its invitations or summons. He said the ministry would keep the committee informed about its plans, priorities and challenges facing the sector.

Tot described the meeting as an important step toward establishing structured cooperation between the committee and the ministry. He commended the minister for briefing the lawmakers on the ministry’s plans, priorities and challenges.

Both sides agreed to maintain regular communication and coordination to strengthen institutional performance, support development of the energy and dams sector and ensure that citizens’ interests remain a priority.
