Deputy Commissioner General Urges Integrity, Teamwork at Nimule Customs
The Deputy Commissioner General of the South Sudan Revenue Authority (SSRA), Solomon Ariik Manyok, has urged customs officers at the Nimule Customs Station to uphold integrity, professionalism and ethical conduct as the Authority intensifies reforms aimed at improving customs administration and increasing domestic revenue collection.
Speaking on Wednesday during the official introduction of the newly appointed Assistant Commissioner of Nimule Customs Station, Gatluak Riek Mark, Ariik stressed that discipline, accountability and commitment to duty are essential to the success of the SSRA’s reform agenda.
“We want you to be committed, ethical, and to display the highest level of integrity. This may be difficult, but it is what is expected of every SSRA officer and member of staff,” Ariik told customs officials.
The Commissioner of Customs Revenue Division, John Mading Bol, conveyed a message from the Commissioner General of the South Sudan Revenue Authority, Ambassador Moun Deng Ajuet, urging staff to fully support the new Assistant Commissioner in order to strengthen revenue collection.
“What he needs most from you is cooperation. Cooperate with the Assistant Commissioner for the sake of revenue collection. That is the message from the Commissioner General,” Mading said.
He also warned against internal divisions and the spread of misinformation, saying unity among staff is critical for effective service delivery.
“We do not need division among you. We need you to remain one team at all times. Whenever there are leadership changes, some people spread false and negative reports that create division. I do not want that to happen,” he said.
Assistant Commissioner Gatluak Riek Mark thanked the SSRA leadership for the confidence placed in him, noting that this is the third time he has been appointed to lead the Nimule Customs Station.
He encouraged customs officers to continuously improve their professional knowledge and technical skills to keep pace with changing customs procedures and emerging technologies.
“Our colleagues, the clearing agents, are advancing every day. They are adopting new technologies and continuously improving their knowledge. For us to regulate them effectively, we must also improve our knowledge and expand our skills so that we can serve efficiently,” Gatluak said.
During the visit, the SSRA senior management delegation also assessed operational challenges facing the station, including persistent cargo truck congestion in Nimule Town. The delegation met with staff, listened to their concerns and reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to addressing operational bottlenecks while advancing the government’s broader economic reform agenda.
The visit is part of the SSRA’s ongoing efforts to strengthen customs operations, improve service delivery and enhance domestic revenue mobilization through effective leadership, institutional reforms and professional public service.
