Security Forces Hunt Gunmen After Deadly Bus Ambush on Juba–Bor Highway

Security forces have launched a manhunt for unidentified gunmen following a deadly ambush on a commercial passenger bus traveling from Bor to Juba on Wednesday morning.

According to the Central Equatoria State Ministry of Information and Communication, the attack occurred at about 10:30 a.m. in Morgiri Boma, Juba County, when armed assailants opened fire on an Eco-bus carrying passengers along the busy Juba–Bor highway.

The driver of the bus was killed in the attack. Authorities have not confirmed whether any passengers were injured or killed.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Central Equatoria State Government condemned the attack, describing it as a “heinous” and “senseless” act of violence targeting innocent civilians.

“The government is committed to ensuring that those responsible for this atrocious act are held accountable. Our security forces are working tirelessly to identify and bring these culprits to justice,” the ministry said.

The state government extended its condolences to the family of the deceased driver and pledged to ensure that those behind the attack face justice.

Following the incident, security agencies have intensified patrols and surveillance along the Juba–Bor highway to strengthen protection for travelers and prevent further attacks.

Despite the ambush, the government said the overall security situation in Juba, Bor, and surrounding areas remains calm, urging residents and road users to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.

Officials reiterated that safeguarding civilians and ensuring the safety of major transport routes remain a top priority for the state government as investigations into the attack continue.
