UJOSS discusses training opportunities for journalists with the Russian Embassy in Juba.

12 June. 2026 Juba. The Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS) paid a courtesy call on the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of South Sudan, Aleksandr Kosmodemiyanskiy on Friday.

UJOSS president Oyet Patrick Charles congratulated the Ambassador and his team upon the celebration of the Russian Federation Day.

June 12 is celebrated annually as “the Russian Federation Day ” since 1992, the day commemorates the adoption of the “Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR) on June 12 1990.

Mr. Oyet appreciated the Ambassador for meeting the UJOSS team.

“As UJOSS we believe that there are a lot of areas of cooperation with Russian Federation where our members can benefit, we have areas such as use of the new media and reporting on elections which we need our members to learn more about.” Said Mr. Oyet.

Both parties discussed potential areas of cooperation and collaboration aimed at promoting professional journalism, media development, and capacity building for journalists in South Sudan. The discussions also explored opportunities for knowledge exchange, training initiatives, and support for programmes that contribute to the growth of a vibrant, ethical, and independent media sector

The meeting is part of the to UJOSS’s ongoing efforts to strengthen partnerships and expand engagement with diplomatic missions and development partners.

Ambassador Kosmodemiyanskiy said the embassy is still new in South Sudan, he said the diplomatic mission was established in December last year and that the Russian Federation stands ready to assist South Sudanese journalists.

UJOSS highlighted its commitment to advancing press freedom, enhancing professional skills of journalists, and creating opportunities that benefit media practitioners across the country. The Union further emphasized the importance of building strategic partnerships that support journalists in fulfilling their role of informing the public and contributing to national development.
The Russian Embassy expressed its appreciation for the visit and welcomed continued dialogue to identify areas of mutual interest and cooperation.
