President Kiir receives Central Equatoria briefing, approves Yei University

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has approved the establishment of Yei University at the former United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) base in Yei Town, a move aimed at expanding access to higher education in the region.

The decision follows a briefing by the Governor of Central Equatoria State, Emmanuel Adil Anthony, who recently returned from a medical trip. He reported that the state remains largely calm despite a recent incident in Jebel Iraq (Khor Khaltan).

Governor Adil noted that more than 150,000 people are currently in the Khor Khaltan area. In response, the state government, in collaboration with the CDF, has deployed additional security forces and is in the process of establishing a police station and an administrative office.

He further revealed that discussions are underway with the Ministry of Mining to enforce proper licensing in gold mining areas, while intensified border operations are being conducted to track down those responsible for criminal activities.

The Governor also highlighted an ongoing crackdown on gangs and criminal networks, with plans to rehabilitate offenders—including minors—and reintegrate them into society.

President Kiir welcomed the Governor back and urged him to continue implementing these measures across the state. He emphasized the importance of maintaining strong security, effective coordination, and community awareness in preparation for the December 2026 elections.
