Jonglei State government launches agriculture farm project

Jonglei State Governor Dr. Riek Gai Kok launched an agricultural project in the Padiet Payam area on Tuesday, in line with the state government’s policy to develop agriculture and enhance food self-sufficiency.
Mr. Kuol Manyang Juuk, Senior Advisor to the President, participated in the project launch. He presented hectares of agricultural land proposed to be allocated to farmers across the state, in Padiet, Jali, and other areas.
In his speech, Mr. Kuol Manyang Juuk stated that the project’s launch represents the official beginning of an agricultural revolution in the state. He emphasized that Jonglei State is ready to become the country’s food basket and the main driver of agriculture in the nation.
He said, “We recognize the enormous potential of the agricultural sector and its significant impact on the state’s development. Therefore, we have implemented a series of strategic measures to promote and support agricultural activities. Jonglei State has historically been the engine of agricultural prosperity in the east, and we have implemented well-thought-out policies to enhance the agricultural revolution in the state.”
Jonglei State Governor Dr. Riek Gai Kok pledged that his administration is committed to transitioning from subsistence farming to mechanized farming through the acquisition of light and heavy machinery.
He said, “This initiative aims to support small farmers and agripreneurs in producing wheat, onions, tomatoes, maize, rice, cassava, mango, sugarcane, coffee, and bananas on a larger scale to enhance food security in the state.”
He added, “My administration is ready to maintain the momentum of the event and even exceed its achievements.”
The governor also assured the farmers that his government is ready to work with them to ensure the success of this project.
He said, “We have come to serve the people, as they are the priority in all our programs. This inauguration is just the beginning. We will open other sites dedicated to crops.”
The state Minister of Agriculture, John Chol Malo, announced that as part of efforts to make agriculture a cornerstone of the state’s economy, the state government is developing policies that clarify roles and provide a regulatory framework for investment in this sector.
This project, which was launched, aims to enhance agricultural productivity, improve food security, and create job opportunities in the state.
