SSPDF Spokesperson Denies Nagero Commissioner’s Allegations

The South Sudan People’s Defense Forces Spokesperson, Major-General Lul Ruai Koang, denies the allegations of attacking the SPLA-IO and claims it was self-defense.

Addressing the media on Monday at SSPDF Headquarters in Juba, Ruai said the clashes are linked to the operation to remove the roadblocks along Tambura-Wau Road.

“The SPLA-IO obstructed the removal of illegal checkpoints along the Tambura-Wau Road, which led to clashes after they ambushed our forces at various locations. The SSPDF had no intention of engaging in combat, but we were forced to defend ourselves,” Lul Ruai said.

“We came across a very long WhatsApp message. It was a very serious allegation against two senior generals from SSPDF: Major General James Akech Adim, Division 6 Commander, and Brigadier General James Nando, the one in charge of the second mobile infantry brigade,” he explained.

He warned people who are damaging the image of the army will face legal action.

“We would like to give a strong warning to those who are out there damaging the image of the national army: we will find you, and we will take measures, including legal action,” he stressed.

Last weekend, Henry Bangada, Nagero County Commissioner, accused SSPDF soldiers of attacking civilians in Western Equatoria.

“Nagero, Saturday 08/02/2025: On Friday, February 7, 2025, the SSPDF Forces carried out barbaric and inhumane attacks under the command of Major General James Akech Adim, Division 6 Commander, and Brigadier General James Nando. Their forces stormed Nagero County in a brutal operation, terrorizing civilians, burning homes, looting businesses, and committing gross human rights violations,” the commissioner said.
