Northern Bahr El Ghazal residents urged to join fight against corruption

Residents of Northern Bahr El Ghazal state have been requested by their leaders not be passive as corruption eats the social fabric of society.

Makuei Mawien Deng, the Secretary in the State Anti-Corruption Commission urged the public to join the fight against the vice that is holding back development in the impoverished state.

“In whatever capacity and status you have as an individual, your contribution towards the fight against corruption is needed. This fight is not entrusted to few agencies or individuals, when we fight it together we will rid our country of a bad behavior,” Mawien said during the three- day symposium organized by United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) in Aweil town.

He said chronic corruption has retarded economic development in South Sudan as millions of people are impoverished.

Mawien encouraged the public and the civil society organizations to fight corruption.

The symposium was attended officials from the Northern Bhar El Ghazal State and civil society.

South Sudan is ranked among the most corrupt countries in the world by Transparency International which measures corruption globally.
