The Vice President for Youth and Gender Cluster, Rebecca Nyandeng Mabior while celebrating the International Day of the Girl Child encouraged girls to pursue their education in order to get a better future.
“Education will open all the doors for you, if you are educated and your husband is educated, you will have a better family, you will be able to pay for education of your children, you will be able to pay for their health and for the welfare of the family,” Nyandeng during the ceremony held at Juba Day Secondary school.
The International Day of the Girl Child is commemorated annually on October 11.
The national ministry of gender, child and social welfare organized the celebration under the theme, “Invest in Girls Rights: Our leadership, our well-being” supported by partners including Plan International South Sudan, Save the Children and UN Women among others.
Ayaa Benjamin Warille, the national minister for gender, child and social welfare called on the government to empower adolescent girls, adding that girls deserve education for a better country.
“The ministry of gender, child, and social welfare is calling on all government institutions to coordinate efforts to empower adolescent girls and ensure their full participation in nation building while also advocating for attainment of their basic rights like education and bodily autonomy,” Warrille said.
She urged stakeholders to work hand -in -hand with the ministry of gender, child and social welfare to give girls in South Sudan a safe healthy and educated life that they deserve.
