Gudele residents given November deadline vacate from police land

Residents of Gudele residential area in Juba, the capital of South Sudan have been given ultimatum to vacate the land owned by the national police by November.
The development follows reports that some individuals purchased the land from alleged land grabbers without proper documentation.
The land located adjacent to Jur river measuring over 200,000 square meters was in the 1970’s allocated to the special police (Fam Medini).
It was later on occupied by the JIU which they handed over to the police.
Daniel Justine Buolo, the national police spokesperson, said on Wednesday in Juba that some individuals and chiefs sold out the land to individuals who were unaware that the land belonged to the police.
“Some other chiefs and local people started selling this place to some people. Actually some people bought it without knowing the land belonged to the police,” he said.
The court had given the police rights to forcefully evict occupants of the land in 2013 but due to outbreak of conflict in 2013 it didn’t happen.
“We thought we should give them an allowance of time so that they legalize their status in terms of going to look for other places and evacuate the place peacefully,” Justin said.
He advised the public to always cross check with the national ministry of land before purchasing land.
