Official calls for gender equality during women’s day celebration in N. Bahr El Ghazal

The Director General for the Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State on Wednesday called for gender equality at all institutional levels.
Akot Angui Akot told Juba Echo that gender equality needs to be reflected at institutional levels and household levels if they are to reduce gender based violence and other forms of sexual related violence in the state.
“Gender based violence cases are on the rise and we are working with the partners to instill the importance of women’s emancipation which is key,” he said in Aweil town.
His remarks came on the heel of the International Women Day being celebrated at Dheng.com premise in Aweil town under the theme “equality and empowerment for women is a priority”.
Angui said that all women in Aweil have to get empowered through offering them education.
“I want to appeal to the men outside there to respect their wives and also to women to understand themselves and act in a fair way,” Angui said.
This year International Women’s Day national celebrations are being held in Wau, Western Bahr El Gazal State.
