The suspect murderer of three Syrian construction workers on Friday told military court that he shot them dead because he was underpaid and mistreated by his employer CKM Construction Company.

Maj. Gen, Lul Ruai Koang, the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) spokesperson while briefing journalists, said Private Yak Garang Yak attached with the Presidential guards confessed to killing the three Syrians and a 15-year-old South Sudanese witness on January 7th in Akon village of Warrap State.

Koang revealed that Garang was angered over the lack of medical insurance, low feeding allowance and also operation allowance.

Garang who worked as a driver and security officer for the construction company which was hired to construct President Salva Kiir’s house in his home village of Akon, was entitled to operation/field allowance of 30,000 South Sudanese Pounds.

Prior to shooting dead his victims, the suspect had complained to his Syrian boss demanding his operational allowance be adjusted.

“Each time he (Garang) fell sick, he would report to his boss of the Syrian company he was working for but his boss would deny it,” Koang said after the court hearing concluded in Giada military barracks of Juba.

“When a member of his family falls sick, he would also go to the company for medical support and his boss who is now deceased would say he was not responsible for his and his family’s medical insurance,” he added.

Koang disclosed Garang killed three Syrias and spared a fourth in order to bear witness on the killings to fellow Syrians back home.

He added Garang admitted that the fourth victim a South Sudanese was killed by a stray bullet.

The murdered Syrians worked for a United Kingdom firm, CKM International Company.
