Juba- Terekeka to be commission on Monday (Today)

President Salva Kiir is expected to commission the completed section of Juba-Terekeka road on Monday.

This was revealed Sunday by Simon Mijok Mijak the Minister of Roads and Bridges during inspection on the road with Rin Tueny Mabor the Governor of Lakes State.

Mijak disclosed that President Kiir will also launch phase two of the road from Terekeka to Yirol.

Schools, health centers, and businesses have mushroomed along the 63-km Juba-Terekeka stretch. This stretch was once swampy and difficult to navigate due to huge potholes since the independence of South Sudan in 2011.

The entire 392 km road being constructed by Chinese firm Shandong Hi-Speed Co. Ltd (SDHS) is designed to link Central Equatoria State which hosts Juba with six other states across the country.

SDHS has already completed the tarmacking of the Juba-Terekeka stretch and is now working on the Awerial-Rumbek stretch.

Mijak said this road is going to bring peace, security and development in the country and people who are here will enjoy.

Mabor, the Governor of Lakes State said the road is very important because it’s connecting Greater Bahr El Ghazal, Unity state with the Capital Juba.

He said they are ready to provide whatever they have to make sure the construction goes on well.

“I came here on Friday to prepare for the coming of the President, and we have done everything and ready for the coming of the president,” said Mabor.

“We are happy for the launching that will take place and we thank the leadership of the country especially President Salva Kiir Mayardit for this initiative to connect our people with roads which will bring peace, stability and development at the same time,” he added.

Prior to its construction, it used to take motorists nearly five hours to reach the fishing town of Terekeka. Now it takes 40 minutes to drive from Juba to Terekeka.
