Eastern Equatoria government condemns killing of road worker in Hiyalla payam

 Eastern Equatoria state has condemned the killing of a road constructor in Hiyalla payam of Torit County by gun men. 

Jildo Abala Remi, the Minister of Roads and Bridges in Eastern Equatoria, said Thomas Izijiya Isaac a staff of Winner’s Construction Company was shot dead on Thursday while he and his colleagues were ferrying murram on the road.

“We do regret the shooting of one of R and U staff under Winner Construction Company in Hiyalla payam, we therefore, condemn it in the strongest terms possible,” Remi told The Juba Echo in Torit town of Eastern Equatoria State on Friday.

He disclosed that the killing has not halted road works in Hiyalla Payam bescause they have beefed up security in the area.

However, Remi admitted that the road construction workers are currently living in fear following the attack on their colleague.

“Obviously, the constructers are afraid and they are in fear but we are asking them to be calm and continue with the road construction. The investigation will depend on the response of the Monyiemiji youth,” Remi said.

Monyiemiji youth have been accused by state authorities of staging violent attacks on United Nations and humanitarian staff over jobs.

Jacob Attari, Torit County Commissioner, said the killers of Izijiya are saboteurs of peace and development in the state. 

This is the second time road workers are being attacked along Torit -Hiyalla road.
