Health outreach for children under five kicks off in N. Bahr el Ghazal

By Hou Akot Hou

Health authorities in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state have commenced the boma health initiative an outreach program aimed at treating children under-five for malaria, diarrhea and pneumonia.

The program is supported by Africa Relief and Development Foundation (ARDF), local NGO providing regular and detailed information on treatment of diseases in areas where there are no health care services.

John Dut Piol, the boma health initiative project coordinator for ARDF in Aweil South County, said they have trained over 80 health workers to undertake the task.

“I want to urge those trained to move deep in far-flung areas where there are no health facilities. Many mothers are suffering with their babies as it is the rainy season now, members of the community should cooperate with them and identify the sick children from diseases like malaria and diarrhea,” Dut said.

Veronica Awut, a trained boma health worker said she will reach out to mothers in rural areas to bring their children for treatment.

Malaria Consortium, a development partner of the health ministry in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state in July began delivering consignment of anti-malaria drugs in Aweil South and Aweil West counties.
