Lawmaker urges government, partners to support traumatized children

James Magok, Deputy Chairperson of Finance Committee in the Council of states

The Deputy Chairperson of the Finance committee in the Council of States, James Magok has called on the national government and humanitarian agencies to provide counseling and psychosocial support for thousands of children traumatized by conflicts.

“We have to consider traumatized children and also provide psychosocial needs of such children, we urge organizations to continue to engage government so that needs of our children are taken care of, they have to be counseled so that they come to their normal life,” Magok said in an interview held during the symposium on budgeting for nutrition at Palm Africa Hotel on Saturday.

The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in it’s 2022 report, said it provided psychosocial support to a total of 11,112 children impacted by violence, climatic shocks, and disease outbreaks across the country.

Magok said that traumatized children need to be provided with both nutrition and psychosocial support.

“It is our responsibility as government to look into issues of our children because without children there is no country. Our children have multiple problems not only nutrition but are also traumatized,” he said.
