The, head teacher for the Rajaf center for the Blind, Levi Sunday Clement said they have secured the braille transcription machine and the text books that will help teachers and children with disability to access information easily.
“We have received braille transcription machine which transcribes text from print to braille, the curriculum of South Sudan is not inclusive because it is not in braille, some of the information are in text,” Clement said during the donation ceremony held in Rajaf on Monday.
“We were doing the transcription manually, this machine will help teachers and pupils to access information easily, now the teachers need motivation, we are struggling and we are doing double work,” he added.
Kevin Abalo, the executive director for Resilience Organization, said that access to sexual reproductive health for visually impaired learners should be inclusive.
“We want every South Sudanese to access information on sexual reproductive health services without any discrimination and also how best we can protect ourselves from other sexual transmitted diseases,” Abalo said
Santino Fot, the program officer for HIV for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), said they are focusing on adolescents and youth, adding that persons with disability should not be left behind.
“We have information generally for adolescents and youth, we want to give special attention to the the visually impaired and the hearing impaired so that they can access information on sexual reproductive health,” Fot said.
“We have a lot of sexual reproductive health issues affecting youth and without information, the youth especially the persons with disability will not have capacity to protect themselves,” he added.
