Women demand justice after 6-year-old raped and killed in Aweil town

The recent rape and killing of 6-year-old girl in Awei town of Northern Bahr el Ghazal sparked protest as South Sudanese women bloc demand justice for victim of pervasive sexual violence.

On 3rd May, a 42-year-old suspected Sudanese trader, Saber Abusom reportedly defied and murdered 6-year-old girl, Abuk Lual Lual and dumped her body into a pit latrine.

Three Sudanese traders were arrested on 5th May in connection with raping and killing of Abuk Lual.

The women Bloc, an activist group is calling for a speedy justice system for the victim of the sexual violence.

“We call upon authorities of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State and government to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice,” the women group said in a statement seen by Juba Echo.

They bloc condemned what they called “heinous acts” and called on government to protect girls from sexual abuses.

“Our children deserve protection from such heinous acts and these perpetrators must be made an example to prevent this from happening again,” it said.

Northern Bahr el Ghazal Police Spokesman, Captain Guot Akol said the investigation of three suspects has been concluded and they are awaiting trial slated for this week.

“The three suspects are in custody and investigation is concluded we are awaiting trial. By the start of the week, the case file will be sent to court for hearing,” Akol said in a statement issued on Saturday.
