Women appeal for support to establish businesses
A section of women in Unity State have appealed to the state government to support them in setting up small businesses.
They said despite the negative impacts of recent floods, they would not give up in their push for economic empowerment through small scale businesses.
Through Nyanam Tang, the chairlady of Bentiu IDPs camp the women appealed to humanitarian partners and state government to support their table banking businesses.
She said the floods effected most businesses as most part of the region remained submerged in flood waters.
“We need support since our daily business interrupted by flooding. Before flooding, eighty percent of women participated in businesses including selling charcoal and firewood to feed their families,” Nyanam said.
Over the past years, Women Vision, a local NGO supported 750 businesswomen in Bentiu IDPs camp, Rubkona, Bentiu town and beyond Dingding Payam to recover from losses occasioned by the floods.
Women Vision Village saving loan officer Manyang Mathew Kuon said his organization has trained more than 800 women in setting up and operating small businesses.
“We supported them with 300 USD per group and we will continue to support them for two years,” he said.
