VP Nyandeng heads to Aweil to review nutrition activities

The Vice President for Gender and Youth Cluster Rebecca Nyandeng together with a high-level delegation of the World Food Programme (WFP) on Thursday arrived in Aweil town of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State.
The delegation is on mission to inspect and review ongoing nutrition activities in the state which is among the most food insecure among the ten states of South Sudan.
“The Vice president Nyandeng will be coming to Aweil on Thursday to visit the sites of the nutrition such as Gabat and food warehouses at Maduany,” Tong Akeen Ngor, the Governor of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State told journalists in Aweil town.
The WFP team is headed by its country director Adeyinka Badejo.
Akeen said that the delegation will inspect schools that they support under the school feeding program such as the Yith-aluk primary school.
“There is a big vegetable farm at Yith-aluk primary school in Mapper, so they will go there and this will help them inform their decisions on prepositioning of food,” he said.
“Floods affected most of the homes in the entire state, the vice president will hold meetings with these humanitarian organizations to see ways of helping our population,” Aken added.
Aken said that apart from the vice president’s visit with the WFP delegation, President Salva Kiir plans to visit Aweil to assess the road construction projects.
The most food insecure states between October and November 2022, where more than 50 percent of their populations are facing Crisis (IPC Phase 3) or worse acute food insecurity, are Jonglei (68%), Unity (66%), Northern Bahr el Ghazal (62%), Upper Nile (58%), Warrap (57%), and Lakes (57%), according to the Integrated Food Classification Report issued by UN agencies.
