UNMISS to support capacity building training for journalists in Unity state

The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has revealed plans to organize capacity building and safety training for journalists in Unity State.

This was revealed Thursday by the UNMISS head of Field office in Unity State Hiroko Hirahara during meeting with the Union of Journalists in Bentiu town.

“UNMISS is willing to offer a series of training to journalists in Unity State, we have that kind of budget to train you in any kind of training you want, but you should be the one to tell us who you want to be  the facilitator of the training,” said Hiroko.

The training will also cover safety for journalists.

UNMISS recently held dialogue with civil society organizations on promoting political space and freedom of expression in preparation for the December 2024 national election.

In addition, they also discussed participation of civil society in the ongoing constitutional making process.

UNMISS also promised to facilitate transport for journalists to hard-to-reach areas such as Leer, Koch, Mayendit, Mayom, and Panyijiar County and Ruweng Administrative Area.

“We have no challenges to train journalists, you come at the right time to request us, UNMISS public Information will sit with you to arrange the days for the training,” said Hiroko.

In December, UNMISS human rights division conducted one-day trainingfor 25 journalists in Bentiu town.
