UNMISS, community chiefs commences in Aweil

the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) filed office in Aweil town trained traditional chiefs on rule of law commenced in Northern Bahr el Ghazal.
“You are the custodians of traditions, customs, beliefs and rules, you are the leaders because you solve problems among societies,” Atakilti Hailu, head of UNMISS for Aweil field office said during the opening of the workshop.
The workshop aimed at training traditional chiefs on rule of law is being attended by 60 traditional chiefs.
Hailu said UNMSS is doing everything in their power to ensure that capacity building is carried out at lower levels of authority.
The Governor of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State Tong Aken Ngor appealed to UNMISS to keep doing such workshops and trainings.
“We are glad for the trainings that you people of UNMISS have been doing. If UNMISS keeps doing these seminars then our people will understand more on rule of law,” Tong said.
Tong assured the participants that the government of national unity is keen to implement the recently extended road map which commenced this week.
The road map aims to push the parties to the 2018 revitalized peace deal to complete all outstanding tasks within the deal prior to national election to be held in December 2024.
