Turkish company sued over environmental pollution

A Turkish owned construction company is being taken to court by residents of residents of Kasire 1, Khor Wolliang and Rejaf Boma for polluting residential areas.
The residents accused Hatay For Construction of polluting the residential by depositing contaminated water.
They said the contaminated water has long affected livelihoods of the population.
Wilson Swaka Ladu a resident of Kasire 1 who doubles as the representatives of the 12 member plaintiffs said his children have had several respiratory illnesses ever since the operation of the company started in the area.
“They burn cement bags at night making it difficult for them to breath. My children got sick,” he narrated.
The company is said to been disposing unclean water from 11 pipelines to the residential areas, running inside houses after storing it for long time.
He said despite several attempts to reach a consensus, the issue felt on deaf ears.
“We exhausted all the procedure and saw no answer, so we thought about coming to the court. Its either we stay in a polluted or the government finds a solution to us,” he said.
Anthony Ayok Chol an advocate representing the plaintiffs said they want the defendant to pay USD 2,000,000 as compensation for the tort.
