Traffic police to impound vehicles with SSPDF plates

Traffic police in Northern Bahr El Ghazal state have vowed to start impounding vehicles and motorbikes with plates of the South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF).

Deng Dut Achiul , a traffic officer in Aweil town said on Thursday that they have realized that some of the motorists having plates of SSPDF often take advantage of them to evade arrest when they get involved in accidents.

“It is so common that most of the people get the plates and are not in the line of duty. So we are going to confiscate such motorbikes in the town and will move to the counties doing the same thing,” Dut told journalists in Aweil town.

He revealed that some of these imposters acquire these plates through their relatives serving in the SSPDF.

Garang Akot a motorist in Aweil town welcomed the crackdown by the traffic police on rogue elements.

“Some of these people with SSPDF plates are not in the army, they just take the plates through their cousins in the army but they are not soldiers, their plates never have numbers,” Akot said.
