Suppliers of food, medicines to soldiers in cantonment sites demand pay

Suppliers of food and medicines to various cantonment sites on Monday said they will petition the office of the presidential security advisor Tut Gatluak to demand their outstanding pay.

Dak Panyang, the Chairperson of suppliers, said they will hold protest on Tuesday at Gatluak’s office who dabbles as the Chairman of the National Pre-Transitional Committee (NPTC) the body supervising implementation of the 2018 revitalized peace deal.

“We are the ones who have been supplying all the cantonment sites with food and medicines, now we are going to 3 to 4 years without money, we have always been going to the office of the security advisor, he keeps telling stories, sometime he even blocks us from meeting him,” Panyang told reporters in Juba.

He said that Gatluak only pledged to partially pay the suppliers within three weeks effective from the date of the meeting but this was not fulfilled as promised.

Panyang said that by staging protest they hope their issue will be resolved.

He revealed that they have no another option than protesting because their businesses are struggling to keep afloat while their families are suffering.

“We the suppliers have therefore decided together with our families and employees to camp at the office of the Chairman until our grievances are attended to,” Panyang said.

Efforts to reach the Presidential Advisor on National Security Affairs for comment on this matter were futile by press time.
