Sudan’s President Abdel Fattah al-Burhan arrived in South Sudan’s capital on Thursday afternoon in a bid to anchor the peace process.
Al-Burhan made a stop over while on his way from neighbouring Uganda’s capital Kampala.
He is set to hold a discussion with President Salva Kiir on the issues delaying provisions of the peace agreement now in its final year, South Sudan Presidential Spokesperson Ateny Wek Ateny told reporters while receiving the visiting head of state at Juba International Airport.
The meeting will discuss “where the parties are stuck and what Sudan as a guarantor can do,” Ateny said.
Al-Burhan will also brief President Kiir on his meeting with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.
South Sudan is in the final year of implementation of its peace agreement but key provisions including the security arrangements and transitional justice are yet to be completed.
