South Sudanese Refugee Behind Bars For Murder In Uganda

Police in Uganda’s Lamwo District is holding a South Sudanese for allegedly killing his 5-year-old daughter on Sunday, July 11, 2021.

Alfonse Oroma, a 29 year old a resident of Zone 6, Block 5 at Palabek Refugee Camp was immediately arrested on Sunday evening on charges related to murder of his daughter identified as Gladys Alaro.

But a preliminary investigation shows that there was a suspect Mr. Oroma Alfonse left at home as he has gone to the neighborhood.

While the case is being investigated at Lamwo Central Police station vides CRB: 210/2021, the deceased, Alaro, was buried on Monday, according to Camp Chairman, Robert Ochan who confirmed to Juba Echo on Tuesday. 

 Mr. Oroma is now in Police custody pending investigationto ascertain the motives surrounding his actions based on statement recorded from relevant eye witnesses.

The case file will be submitted to Director of Public Prosecutions for perusal and legal advice upon conclusion of investigations, according to Ongom David Mudong, Police Spokesperson for Aswa River Region in a Press Statement. 

However, if Mr. Oroma is found guilty of murdering his daughter based on Chapter 18 on murder and manslaughter, section 189 of the Uganda’s Penal Code of 1950, he shall be sentenced to death. 

But, the Court shall discharge him, according to the same chapter, penal code 12, if found innocent.
