A senior South Sudanese official on Monday praised the practical knowledge and skills acquired from Chinese experts during the just concluded training seminar on crisis management and response in Juba, the capital of South Sudan.
Lawrence Akola, Director General for Planning, Training, and Coordination in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, said that the 14-day seminar conducted by experts of Hunan International Business Vocational College has provided deep insights and knowledge on crisis management and response to the 30 trainees.
“Let us reflect on the knowledge and insights we have gained in these days, and may this seminar be a catalyst for the continued learning, innovation and collaboration. Let us carry forward the momentum from today, and apply what we have learnt to our respective fields and endeavors,” Akola said during the closing ceremony.
The training that commenced on Sept. 2-15 was attended by officials in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Relief and Rehabilitation Commission, and the Ministry of Health of South Sudan.
Akola noted that the training has been a vital learning experience for both the South Sudanese and Chinese experts.
Peng Wei, Project Manager of China-Aid Training Faculty of Hunan International Business Vocational College, which organized the training said that participants have improved their practical operation capabilities, and also found crisis response ideas and methods suitable for South Sudan’s local needs.
“The 14-day intensive seminar is coming to an end, but our exchange and cooperation in the field of crisis management have just begun. We hope that all participants will maintain long-term contact with us, promptly share the achievements of applying the knowledge learned in this seminar to solve practical problems in work, and also provide feedback on new needs and difficulties at any time,” she said.
Li Wancheng, counselor for economic and commercial affairs in the Chinese Embassy in South Sudan, said that the training program was conducted against a backdrop of increasing global challenges and rising uncertainties, making it particularly significant.
He noted that over the past two weeks, the participants engaged in intensive study and in-depth exchanges, exploring critical issues such as early warning, emergency response, and post-disaster recovery.
“You have shared valuable experiences and successful practices. I am confident that this program has not only enhanced your professional knowledge and practical skills, but also forged deep friendships, laying a more solid foundation for future China-South Sudan cooperation in this vital field,” Li said.
Li disclosed that China will always be a good friend and reliable partner sharing similar aspirations and marching forward hand-in-hand with South Sudan.
“We stand ready to work with our South Sudanese brothers and sisters, seizing the opportunity presented by the Global Governance Initiative, to deepen practical cooperation in various fields such as early warning, emergency capacity building, and personnel training,” Li said.
