South Sudanese kickboxing champion appeals for support amid financial struggles

South Sudanese kickboxing champion Majok Gau Juwiir is appealing for support after facing serious financial difficulties, including about six months of unpaid rent and the loss of a stable source of income.
Despite representing South Sudan in national and international competitions and winning multiple championship titles, Majok says his sporting achievements have not translated into a sustainable livelihood.
Speaking to Hot in Juba, Majok said he has made several attempts to seek support from government officials but has struggled to reach decision-makers who could help him find opportunities to put his skills and experience to work.
With experience in military service and combat sports, Majok says he could contribute by providing physical fitness and combat training to security personnel, including special forces and presidential protection units.
“I am a young person who believes in my own potential. I believe having the opportunity to train special forces would assist me financially while also giving me a chance to share my skills with other young people,” Majok said.
Majok previously earned a living by providing physical fitness training to employees of international non-governmental organizations. He said funding cuts and the departure of many of those he trained from South Sudan left him without a reliable source of income.
Seven major titles
Majok’s sporting record includes seven major titles across kickboxing, Muay Thai, mixed martial arts and boxing since he began his championship career in 2018.

2018: WKF South Sudan Kickboxing Champion- 2022: WMO Continental Muay Thai Champion- 2023: WMO International Muay Thai Champion- 2024: South Sudan MMA Champion-
2025: World Muay Thai Champion in Thailand- 2025: WBC Africa Boxing Champion-
2026: World Muay Thai Champion in Pattaya, Thailand
During his 2025 World Muay Thai Championship campaign in Thailand, Majok defeated opponents from Italy, the Netherlands and Iran before claiming the title. He later won the WBC Africa Boxing Championship after defeating Tanzanian champion Emmanuel Shija.
In 2026, Majok returned to Thailand and won another World Muay Thai Championship in Pattaya, defeating Chinese champion Wei Lei.
Majok says his appeal is not simply for financial assistance but for an opportunity to work, contribute to national institutions and pass his knowledge and experience to younger South Sudanese.
He is calling on the Government of South Sudan, sports authorities, security institutions, private-sector companies, development partners and well-wishers to consider supporting his professional development and creating opportunities where his skills can benefit young people and national institutions.
After carrying the South Sudanese flag onto international sporting stages, Majok says he now needs an opportunity to build a sustainable future through the skills he has developed over years of training and competition.
