Education Ministry Hails Handover of Teaching and Learning Materials from the China-Aided Phase II Technical Cooperation Project of Education in South Sudan
The Ministry of General Education and Instruction, Republic of South Sudan on Wednesday received the teaching and learning materials from Shanghai Educational Publishing House with the witness of the Chinese Embassy in Juba.
The materials, including 330,000 volumes of printed textbooks of Primary One for the subjects of English, Mathematics and Science, the customized teaching and learning equipment for Primary and the customized laboratory equipment for the Secondary Schools, are part of the deliverables for the China-Aided Phase II Technical Cooperation Project of Education in South Sudan.
The Project was initiated in July of 2021, and it is composed of a variety of components, listing as compiling and providing primary school English, Mathematics and Science textbooks and some Secondary school textbooks, training teachers and educational management personnel, developing and providing a monitoring and evaluation system for textbook usage, establishment and operation of Chinese language learning centre and Chinese language teaching programmes.
The teaching and learning materials are right now warehoused in the campus of the Rombur National Teacher Training Institute.
The Director General for Curriculum and Quality Assurance from the Ministry Mr. Omot Okoly Olony presented his gratitude to the Chinese partner for the thoughtful consideration to enable a solution for the warehousing with the pertaining of containers.
“Today we are very thankful for receiving the learning and teaching materials from the project. I have instructed the operation of distribution to be well organized to ensure these materials reach the hands of need, so that the South Sudanese pupils and learners will benefit from the materials,” said Olony.
The Minister, Honorable Awut Deng Acuil, speaking at the ceremony expressed gratitude to the Chinese government and people, especially the Chinese Embassy in South Sudan for the support in the technical cooperation, and she also extended appreciation to the staff in the Ministry and Shanghai Educational Publishing House, the Chinese service partner for the work delivered. She urged the domestic and international partners to carry on the support and exchanges to assist the agenda of the Ministry to provide better service delivery in the general education sector.
She added, “South Sudan is shaping up its education system, implementing competency and skills in learners at the pre-primary, primary, secondary levels, and alternative education system, an idea that echoes the education system development in China that spurred its technology over the decades.”
H.E. Chinese Ambassador Ma Qiang attended the ceremony and presented His acknowledgement to the joint work team for the accomplishments. He assured that the Chinese government would maintain the priority of educational cooperation with the government of South Sudan.
He encouraged the Chinese publishing house to carry on with the standard of delivery and maintain the good exchanges with the South Sudanese counterpart.
He added, “in 2023, the project implementation is scheduled to cover the development and review of Primary 5 to 8 textbooks for the subjects of English, Mathematics and Science, the capacity building for hundreds of teachers and school managers, the printing and delivery of over 1 million volumes of textbooks.”
The Project Coordinator from the Shanghai Educational Publishing House, who participated in the hand-over, assured everybody that the publishing house will maintain the dedication to the delivery of the project as usual. He shared, “We are very grateful for the acknowledgement we have received for the work delivered, and we are confident that the project delivery will witness a great success in the technical cooperation of education sector. With full coordination and responding to the actual demands, the implementation will demonstrate the fundamental objective of the technical cooperation, and maximize the practice and effects of friendly exchanges in the educational sector between the government and people of the two nations.”
