South Sudan reappoints former MD to head national oil company

South Sudan President Salva Kiir has reappointed Dr Chol Deng Thon Abel as managing director of Nile Petroleum Corporation, one year after he was fired.
Abel was appointed in a decree read on State television, South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation on Friday evening.
He was sacked in September 2020 and replaced by Bol Ring Muorwel who was himself fired this month.
NILEPET is the arm of the government in crude exploitation.
The country with sub-Saharan third largest reserves produces 156,000 barrels of crude every day.
