Authorities in South Sudan’s restive Lakes state have deployed soldiers in several hotspot areas to mitigateescalating communal violence.

The state has been experiencing intermittent inter-communal violence since last year, the violence that has claimed hundreds of lives has often pitied local communities against each other.

The violence is usually caused by cattle raiding and revenge attacks.

William Koji Kirjok, Acting State Minister of Information revealed on Wednesday the deployment of South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF) soldiers in flash points.

“The government has deployed soldiers in all the hotspots where these criminals were ambushing and killing people,” Koji told The Juba Echo from Rumbek.

Koji assured the public that they will soon bring to an end random killings, road ambushes, and cattle raiding.

“The criminals have run away from those areas and people are now moving freely without fear of attack and also farmers are cultivating in their farms without fear,”he said.

Koji disclosed that President Salva Kiir has already directed Governor Ring Tueny Mabor and security forces to control escalating communal violence in the state.
