South Sudan lawmaker raises alarm on insecurity along Mogiri-Lafon road
At least six children were recently abducted by unknown assailants along Mogiri-Lafon road.
Nelson Ungang, member of parliament representing Lafon County in Eastern Equatoria State in the transitional national legislative assembly said in an interview in Juba on Thursday.
“Most of our people are moving on foot to come to Juba, people from Adeba village in Lafon area are coming to Juba with their children. About 6 children were kidnapped, two of them have escaped but four are still missing,” Ungang said.
He disclosed that people traveling to Lafon are being attacked by armed assailants.
Ungang said that six people were wounded last week in a road ambush at Wangdida area along Mogiri-Lafon road.
He said the attackers are heavily armed with sophisticated weapons only reserved for the security forces.
“This area needs community policing, and also the government of Eastern Equatoria and the transitional national government should deploy forces there,” Ungang said.
