South Sudan, Djibouti sign agreement on fiber optic
The governments of South Sudan and Djibouti have signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday to connect fibre optic cable from Djibouti through Ethiopia to the Republic of South Sudan.
According to the statement issued on Monday, Michael Makuei Lueth, the Minister of Information Communication Technology and Postal Services, said a technical team from both sides will be set up to deliberate on the project.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Vice President for Infrastructure Cluster, Taban Deng Gai and other senior officials from the government of Djibouti.
It said that South Sudan’s Ministry of Information Communication Technology and Postal Services is working closely with the World Bank to connect the country with another internet fiber optic cable from the Republic of Kenya.
Vice President for Infrastructure Cluster last week travelled with a high-level delegation to Djibouti to finalize the deal.
