South Sudan Civil Society Alliances Welcomes NEC Funding for Civic and Voter Education Ahead of General Elections
By Sasuk Taban
The South Sudan Civil Society Alliances (SSCSA) welcomes the announcement by the National Elections Commission (NEC) regarding the allocation and receipt of funding for civic and voter education as part of the country’s preparations for the forthcoming general elections.
This development represents a significant step toward enhancing electoral preparedness and promoting informed citizen participation in South Sudan’s democratic process. Civic and voter education are critical pillars of credible, transparent, and inclusive elections, equipping citizens with the knowledge needed to understand their rights, responsibilities, and the electoral procedures.
While welcoming this positive progress, SSCSA remains concerned about the overall pace of electoral preparations and emphasizes the importance of sustained commitment, coordination, and cooperation among all stakeholders to ensure a successful electoral process.
The Alliance commends the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (RTGoNU) for reaffirming its commitment to conducting elections and urges the government to prioritize and expedite support to the National Elections Commission and other electoral institutions. Adequate and timely funding, institutional independence, capacity strengthening, and the implementation of key electoral activities are essential to delivering free, fair, transparent, and credible elections.
Furthermore, SSCSA calls upon the government, political parties, civil society organizations, and development partners to work collectively toward creating a conducive political and security environment that guarantees equal participation, protects fundamental freedoms, and strengthens public confidence in the electoral process.
The South Sudan Civil Society Alliances remains committed to supporting democratic governance, civic engagement, peaceful coexistence, and the realization of credible elections that reflect the will and aspirations of the people of South Sudan.
