The national council of ministers on Friday passed and approved a supplementary
budget for the elections and the electoral process.
Addressing journalists shortly after the cabinet meeting chaired by President Salva Kiir
Mayardit in Juba, South Sudan`s Government Spokesperson Michael Makuei Lueth
said the finance Minister Bak Barnaba Chol presented a total of over 73.3 billion South
Sudanese Pounds to cover the whole process for the polls.
He said the budget was divided into two, an urgent budget which will run up to the end
of June amounting to over 107.49 billion SSP and the balance will be referred to the
fiscal year 2024/2025 budget that comes to effect from July.
Makuei said the cabinet approved the 107.49 billion SSP budget and directed the
Minister of Finance to present it to the parliament for consideration.
He said the amount presented will support the conduct of elections and implementation
of the some of the provisions that are connected with the elections.
“When we say elections is around the corner that does not mean that all the funds will
be made available as of now because some part of it will be used in December this year
so the budget which was approved for this year is a supplementary budget that will
meet the requirements of all these institutions up to June by July the actual final budget
for all these institutions will come out” he said
