Seventh Day Adventist church donates clothing to inmates in Aweil
Prison authorities in Aweil central prison have secured clothing for 44 inmates donated by the Seventh Day Adventist church.
Pastor Akoon Tem of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Aweil town said that revealed that the beneficiaries are women and men.
“We have provided 44 inmates with clothing of different kinds and this is because Jesus tells in the scripture to visit those who are incarcerated and nurse the sick. So for us as preachers we could not just embark on doing the evangelism without getting practical with what the Bible says,” Akoon told The Juba Echo on Sunday, last week in Aweil town.
Achol Majak Anei, a female inmate thanked the Seventh Day Adventist Church for the donation, adding that church needs to provide more support to inmates.
“We want them extend similar support to other people in the counties. Some of us have spent years in jail and our clothing has worn out,” she said.
Tong Duang, the director of Aweil central prison commended the church for reaching out to inmates, adding that such support helps to heal trauma among the inmates.
The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) in 2023 visited Aweil central prison and supported the inmates with clothing and other services.
Aweil central prison is congested leaving some inmates exposed to preventable diseases.
