Construction of roads in Unity State’s oilfields has begun, state Acting Information Minister David Gai Jigor has announced.

The Acting Minister Gai said the 18 kilometer distance between Unity oilfield and where construction will be completed within 21 days.

“The aim of this construction is to allow free movement of goods, services and food for Internally Displaced Persons,” he said.

Unity State community representative Gatkuai Pathot said thanks the government and partners for the constructing the road.

“Our children are suffering from malnutrition due to food shortage, if this road construction is completed, we will fight with this malnutrition.”

Poor road transport has resulted in food scarcity and malnutrition rate as WFP warehouses have been empty for one month.

Over the past four months floods have made it difficult for humanitarian food agency, World Food Programme (WFP) to transport food aid to Bentiu.

The state government is collaborating with World Food Programme and Amaars Construction Company Limited to construct the Bentiu main road to the oilfields.
