Primary leaving exams to begin in February

The 2022 Primary Leaving Examinations are set to begin on February 13th, according to a new timetable released by the national examination council on Wednesday.

Awut Deng Acuil, Minister of General Education and Instruction said a total of 60,714 candidates will sit for the Certificate of Primary Education Examinations across the country.

“The 2022 Certificate of Primary Education (CPE) examinations have been put in place and the examination administration dates have been fixed. The examinations begin on Monday 13th February 2023 and end by Friday 17th February 2023,” Awut told journalists during a press briefing held at the ministry in Juba.

She disclosed that 34,505 males and 26,209 females have dully registered for the examinations.

Awut advised invigilators, security, and police officials to maintain security and the examination guidelines during the exams. 

“You play a central role in helping the council to ensure that security is maintained and examinations are conducted in a fair and appropriate manner that allows the candidates to sit for the examinations in a suitable environment,” she said.

Awut urged the head teachers to thoroughly brief the candidates on the rules and regulations for the examination.

Martin Tako Moyi, Deputy Minister of General Education and Instruction directed the school administrators to suspend learning in designated examination centers during the examination period.

“During the conduct of examinations of the primary leaving certificate, teaching will be suspended in schools that are designated as examinations centers, however, we expect teaching to continue normally in the rest of our primary schools,” said Tako.

Tako said the learning will resume on 20 February in designated centers.

“I urge state Ministries of General Education and Instruction to strictly adhere to this announcement and the new calendar,” he said.

According to the timetable, the candidates will officially start their examinations with Religious Education, Science, English, and Social Studies and end with Mathematics on February 17th.
