President Kiir, UNGA President discuss development on December election

President Salva Kiir Mayardit and Dennis Francis, President of the UN General Assembly, met on Thursday to discuss South Sudan’s development and progress, with particular attention on upcoming elections and the country’s ambitions for a successful and progressive future for its citizens.

Francis expressed his gratitude to South Sudan for hosting refugees, praising the country’s adherence to humanitarian law and its willingness to help those in need.

The President of UNGA emphasized the importance of inclusivity in South Sudan’s development efforts, highlighting the extraordinary potential of the country’s population, stressing the importance of investing in education and training to empower the people and drive positive changes within the nation.

In response to the UN delegation’s visit, Cabinet Affairs Minister Dr. Martin Elia Lomuro said the purpose of their assessment across various sectors in South Sudan was to align with both regional and international agendas.

Dr. Lomuro noted that President Kiir conveyed a message of hope and determination to the UN delegation, reaffirming his government’s commitment to collaborating closely with the United Nations to address the challenges facing the nation.

As South Sudan’s collaboration with the United Nations strengthens, concerted efforts are expected to be undertaken to solve existing difficulties and establish a brighter future for the South Sudanese people.
